Map Project

Heya! This is what I’ve finished til now. I’m still working on the icons for the big places so that’s why we currently have like 7 different Stanley Theatres in the city. I’m a bit stuck because I feel like there’s something I could change to make it better but I can’t place what’s off.

On a sidenote, the colors here are a LOT more saturated and neon than they actually are .

Map Creation (so far) 2

So, I tried my best to make the necessary changes given during critique, as well as move forward with the actual layout itself. I implemented the illustrations I did. I’m thinking I might add some sort of worn paper texture to the ‘land’ area of the map to counteract the intensity and detail of the illustrations. Any advice or ideas would be great!

Bayard Cutting ArboretumT

Tried each colors in seperate layers. Is not very visible using color pencil. I did not have color markers. So I did it on one tracing paper.

There is already established map of this park. However, its the map is bombarded with small serif texts. It is super hard to read. Also details of each landmarks are not organized. Its hard to find the details of certain place the viewers want to see. So I put numbers on each landmarks. Numbers would make viewers easier to find where to read.

Currently I am trying to figure out how to draw legends. For instance my farm symbol-which tried to replicate scarecrow- does not really work. I guess I can figure this out by researching vector images online.

Allegany State Park Map Creation

I have some icon sketches and my trace of the map. Luckily, the color coded areas on the original map were easy enough to read. That being said, the map is pretty outdated in terms of icons and design. I’m hoping to mostly amp up the graphics, colors, and legibility. This park looks really interesting, so it needs a cool map to match. 🙂

Map Sketch

Here’s my sketch in a spread – I’m gonna to move my trail key over to the right in the blank space. I also just focused on tracing the paths onto the tracing paper, the styles of the paths are noted above. Would love some feedback 🙂
